Sporting Bet is another online gambling company owned by Entain (formerly GVC). The brand primarily offers to bet on sporting events such as racing and football.
Sporting bet was founded by by Mark Blandford in 1997. They went on to buy Paradise Poker in 2004 but had to cease all us activity in 2006 because of changing US gambling regulation. Subsequently Sporting Bet sold all its US sports betting and casino businesses, including Sportsbook.com and Sports.com, to a group of private investors for $1, and an assumption of $13.2 million in debts.
In October 2012, Sporting Bet announced its board had agreed to preliminary terms for a £530 million takeover bid from UK bookmaker William Hill and Isle of Man-based GVC Holdings.
In 2020, GVC Holdings announced a rebrand which would include a name change to Entain.
